Research cooperation with Wintershall Dea is going on?

KIT and its industrial partner Wintershall Dea are running a joint project that is scheduled to run for three years. The cooperation laid the future industrial foundations used mainly for methane pyrolysis over the next three years. “There are large quantities of natural gas available worldwide and there is the possibility of making this natural gas climate-neutral. How we can implement this in a technically efficient way and later use it for large quantities of gas: This is what we want to investigate in our research project,” says Wetzel.

One of the members of the Board of Executive Directors and Chief Technology Officer of Wintershall Dea, Hugo Dijkgraaf says “We look forward to working together and are convinced that together we can make an important contribution to a sustainable energy supply.” “The perspectives we are establishing in our cooperation with KIT are clear: Natural gas has a future. Natural gas is already the cleanest conventional energy source today. But natural gas can become even more climate-friendly in the future: by splitting off CO2 and producing hydrogen from natural gas”.
