What is DeviceNet?

Reading Time: < 1 minute

As we know there are three open network standards- DeviceNet, ControlNet, and EtherNet/IP. A common application layer is mainly used by all of them, known as “Common Industrial Protocol”.

The DeviceNet application is one of the main fields in factory automation with I/O modules, valves, encoders, simple drives, and controls i.e. PLC.

In the CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) network family, DeviceNet mainly covers the part of the applications where small to medium amounts of data with short to medium cycle times i.e. 1ms to 500ms in the network can be exchanged.
