One of the most active countries in Eastern Europe in autonomous vehicle research and development in Poland. With several successful pilot projects in autonomous buses and shuttles, the country is showing massive growth in the deployment of AVs such as in Poznan and Gdansk.
The development of AVs is supported by various government funding and regulations. For example, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development provided funding for the implementation of pilot projects of autonomous buses in cities like Poznan, Gdansk, and Bydgoszcz. The Ministry of Digital Affairs also launched a program known as “Autonomous Vehicles” aiming to support the development of AVs in Poland.
Several universities and research institutes are also actively working in Poland on various AV technologies such as the Warsaw University of Technology, the Silesian University of Technology, and the AGH University of Science and Technology. The institutions are involved in sensor technology, navigation, and control systems.
The automotive industry is also keen interest in the AVs market in Poland. Companies like Solaris Bus & Coach and Ursus Bus are working on the development of autonomous buses. Navia is also one of the self-driving vehicle manufacturers, Brainwave developing control systems for AVs.
- Solaris Bus & Coach: One of the leading manufacturers of electric buses is also working on the development of autonomous buses. Several pilot projects of autonomous buses in Polish cities such as Poznan, and Gdansk.
- Ursus Bus: The company is a manufacturer of buses and working on the development of autonomous buses.
- Optimatik: Real-time data is provided with access to vehicle location and its routes. The technology is used for tracking and analyzing activities in various indoor industrial vehicles, including forklifts, automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), indoor trains, shunt trucks, kanban trolleys, stackers, and industrial trucks.
- Asseco Poland: Software solutions provided by the company in autonomous vehicles including navigation, sensor data processing, and control systems.
Several research institutes are involved in the progress of Autonomous vehicles such as:
- Warsaw University of Technology: The Faculty of Transport of this University is actively engaged in the research and development of AV technology, focusing on areas such as perception, decision-making, and control systems for AVs.
- Silesian University of Technology: This university has a research center focused on the development of AV technology, working on areas such as sensor technology, navigation, and control systems.
- AGH University of Science and Technology: This university has several research groups working on AV technology, with a focus on areas such as sensor fusion, perception, and control systems.
- Institute of Automotive Industry (IAI): This research institute is focused on the development of AV technology, working on areas such as sensor technology, navigation, and control systems.
- Institute of Control and Information Engineering, Poznan University of Technology: This research institute is working on the development of AV technology, with a focus on areas such as sensor technology, navigation, and control systems
- Institute of Logistics and Warehousing: This research institute is working on the development of autonomous vehicles for logistics and delivery operations.
