Arm, Bosch, Continental, Denso, General Motors, Nvidia, NXP Semiconductors, and Toyota have formed the Autonomous Vehicle Computing Consortium (AVCC) to accelerate the development of autonomous vehicles.
As per a recent article by all-electronics.de, AVCC i.e. Autonomous Vehicle Computing Consortium was formed by Arm, Bosch, Continental, Denso, General Motors, Nvidia, NXP Semiconductors, and Toyota to accelerate autonomous vehicle development. It was developed in San Jose for safe and affordable autonomous vehicles.
As the mass market is with huge demand and to achieve it by one single company is a huge challenge, thereby cooperation at an industry level was required.
The technical challenges and hurdles faced on a mass scale are handled by the AVCC where the concept is implemented on a computer platform for all different tasks. One of the first goals of the consortium is defining a reference architecture and platform. The performance characteristics will be mapped in order to achieve it during vehicles to be practically developed.
The current prototype systems are ensured by the computer platform where it can be used for mass production in the future. The software requirements are worked out by the software APIs where all blocks are within an autonomous system.
