Holographic displays are a new technology that has the potential to change how we engage with digital material. While holographic displays aren’t directly relevant to autonomous vehicles (AVs), they can be used with other developing technologies to improve the AV experience.
According to a Phys.org article, holographic displays are continually developing, with larger and quicker spatial light modulators (SLMs) and higher pixel counts on liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) phase displays.
- Augmented and virtual reality: Augmented and virtual reality technologies, like holographic displays, give viewers an immersive experience. They do, however, necessitate the use of headphones or other specialist equipment, whereas holographic displays may be watched without the use of any extra equipment.
- Smart technology: Smart technology is another growing technology in the AV industry that is focused on producing smart homes and smart buildings. While smart technology may be utilized to operate AV systems, it can not deliver the same degree of interaction and visualization as holographic displays.
- Cloud-based AV systems: Cloud-based AV systems are another new AV technology that provides improved flexibility and scalability. They do not, however, offer the same level of interaction and imagery as holographic displays.
- Flexible screens: Flexible screens are another new technology in the AV industry that may be utilized to create distinctive and interesting presentations. They do not, however, deliver the same level of realism and immersion as holographic displays.
Holographic displays provide a unique and engaging experience for viewers that cannot be recreated by other upcoming technologies in the AV sector. While alternative technologies such as augmented and virtual reality, smart technology, cloud-based AV systems, and flexible screens have their advantages, they do not deliver the same degree of engagement and visualization as holographic displays.
