The modernization and evolution of commercial vehicles can be seen in terms of electric vehicles. Many major automobile companies and other tech companies are joining the electric vehicle initiative as it proves to be successful among the major audience. However, lacking standardized charging in a uniform way is still a challenge?
Electric ships, aircraft, or electrically powered construction machinery are some examples for using traction batteries that are electrically powered and high charging power is required but the problem is with the charging system that needs to meet a lot of major requirements where CCS charging systems are currently in use.
As in the case of e-cars where the Combined Charging System (CSS) is already in use, VDA and VDE are making an initiative to work on its international regulation based on the standardization used in e-cars.
VDA and VDE are known as The German Association of the Automotive Industry and The German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE) respectively are working together to coordinate drafts with an aim for a new charging standard at an international level with newly defined performance parameters required for new charging interface.
The connectors are technically beneficial to meet the requirements that are very much needed across different sectors. The association is working with the North American industry with close cooperation to meet the standardization requirement.
In my opinion, for heavy-duty vehicles, the principle and standardization at an international level are very much needed to provided efficiency in charging with upper limits in performance parameters. As we can see in e-cars, the standardization not only helped to generate revenues and new opportunities to be a charging supplier but also a gate for innovative ideas and design in reusing the charging solution in an optimized way.
