As per federal law in the US, batteries requires to last for 8 years or 100,000 miles. However, as per company expert, Thomas from Nissan expects the battery to last for 15 to 20 years.

But the capacity and range of the battery do decrease over time.

As stated by efahrer, “However, the lifespan of the Nissan batteries is more of a negative example, since the batteries are very vulnerable due to the lack of active thermal management”.

Nissan is also actively collecting Leaf batteries from accident vehicles to use them as stationary storage to store solar and wind energy. They consider with 60 or 70% usable power, batteries from old electric cars are ideal for storage.
