Trucks emit only water vapor with the new fuel cell introduced by Volvo powered by hydrogen. It can produce its electricity onboard up to a range of 1000 Km.
According to Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, “ We have been developing this technology for some years now, and it feels great to see the first trucks successfully running on the test track. The combination of battery electric and fuel cell electric will enable our customers to eliminate CO2 exhaust emissions from their trucks, no matter transport assignments.”
Also, Volvo provides battery electric trucks as well as trucks running on renewable fuels such as biogas.
The fuel cell will be delivered by cellcentric. Cellcentric is a joint venture between Volvo Group and Daimler Truck AG. They are going to build one of the largest series production facilities for fuel cells.
What is a fuel cell?
The electricity generated by a fuel cell from the hydrogen onboard instead of being charged from an external source.
Why Fuel Cell technology?
It is one of the large-scale supplies of green hydrogen. And also refueling infrastructure for heavy vehicles is yet to be built.
As per Roger Alm, “We expect the supply of green hydrogen to increase significantly during the next couple of years since many industries will depend on it to reduce CO2.”
