A growth rate of 30% has been recorded for wireless technologies as compared to the previous year that was recorded as 32% whereas the market share was 6% as compared to the previous year with 6%. In wireless technologies, WLAN is considered to be the most widespread as compared to Bluetooth.
As per the comment by Döring, “Wireless is increasingly being used by machine manufacturers and system integrators to implement new types of automation architectures. Users can reduce cabling costs and implement new solutions for connectivity and control. We are also seeing an increasing number of activities around wireless technology worldwide, such as private LTE/5G networks, that can pave the way for smart and even more flexible manufacturing in factories”.
In Europe and in the Middle East, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET are leading providers, next to it PROFIBUS is widely used. Most frequently EtherCAT and Ethernet POWERLINK are used.
However, the CIP network dominated the US market with a major shift towards EtherNet/IP. The market for EtherCAT started to gain its major share where no network is the market leader in Asia but PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS, EtherCAT, Modbus, and CC-Link have been widely used where the version of Ethernet CC-Link IE field is gaining its importance continuously.
