Sunmobility was co-founded by Chetan Maini and Uday Khemka in 2017. It is a joint venture between the SUN Group and Maini Group to promote electric mobility. They are based in Bangalore. The third co-founder is known as Ajay Goel.

The company’s operating revenue is in the range of 1 to 100 Crore. Its authorized share capital is Rs. 175 crores and the total paid-up capital is Rs. 122.91 crores.

The Maini Group is involved in diversified engineering projects such as intra-campus electric mobility, material handling, aerospace, and automotive precision products. The SUN Group is involved in energy sectors (Oil & gas), mining, renewable energy, and new energy storage applications.

The company is focused on a quick battery swapping model to confront issues of high upfront cost, range anxiety, and long charging time. They are focused on a ‘Pay-as-you-go’ system for battery usage.

The company is collaborating with various fleet operators/aggregators, oil marketing companies and ecosystem cities, EV manufacturers, the latest being the Terra Motors,

The EV automaker OSM (Omega Seiki Mobility) is also in a strategic partnership with Sunmobility to use its battery swapping technology. The partnership is witnessing to launch of 10,000+ units of cargo 3W, Rage+ across the country.

Currently, Sunmobility Swap points are available at Indian Oil Corporation’s fuel Stations.  The Dutch commodity and trader Vitol’s investments of USD 50 million accelerated the company’s plan to install 500 SWAP points in India by 2022. The company also partnered with Italian company Piaggio for battery swapping technology in India.

The technology is no doubt addressing the core issues about the time needed to charge the battery. Most of the scooters need 4 to 9 hours of battery charging time. It is possible to avail it at your home for a complete charge or at your office place for a sufficient amount of time.

The battery swapping technology helps you to speed up the elimination of exhausted batteries rather than waiting to charge up. It also takes care of the long-distance travel difficulties with pure batteries. With more number stations available on the road, the fear of being left alone with no charge can be handled smoothly. However, the quality of each battery needs to be the same as the previous. The way batteries are facing problems like fires should be eliminated.

As we all know, battery waste after complete use is a major problem. The implementation of more amount of sustainable or recyclable batteries can provide a long-time eco-friendly approach to our current electric mobility environment. Are the companies involved in more such solutions?

The founder of the company, Chetan Maini, was also the founder of the first electric car Reva in 1999. It is now acquired by Mahindra and Mahindra. He has been acknowledged globally for his experience in electric space.
