We do talk a lot about global pollution including greenhouse gas emission and living sustainably to reduce any unwanted wastage. Recycling the waste, using more renewable energy sources, or even shifting to battery-used vehicles. Beach litter?

How about beach cleaning? Should we not be serious about keeping our sea beaches clean to prevent sea pollution.

As per Legambiente, in 2019, the survey shows the most items collected from the beach litter:-

  1. Glass and ceramic fragments – 4.6%.
  2. Mussel nets, oyster nets-5.1%

  8. Plastic cups- 14%
  9. Polystyrene pieces (2.5-50 cm)- 15%

The major issues faced on Italian beaches are the use of Plastics. Glass/Ceramics and metals come in 2nd and 3rd place.

The sources of such pollution are just not the humans going for a relaxing time on the beaches but the mismanagement of the urban wastes in 2019.

The sources identified are:-

  1. Packaging
  2. Smoking-related items
  3. Building materials
  4. Plastic bags.

In 2018, the pollution of the beach was on high alert and people were not allowed to take bath or go for a swim. The top 5 beaches affected due to litter are:-

  2. Sicily-16%
  3. Lazio-15%
  4. Friuli-Venezia Giulia

The problem identified is serious and can not be taken neglected. Once the beaches get identified not fit to take bath. It sets the high alarm to clean the litter with seriousness.
