The theme of sustainable food products is not something new in the US. A country with its busy schedules and high-stress work-life is known for living a life full of eco-friendly and sustainable food products.

So, what about the sustainable food products or packing of the products.

In 2020, in the U.S., the retail value of food and beverage products with an ethical label is recorded as more than 230 billion dollars. As per FoodNavigators, the retail value increased steadily from 2016 onwards.

As per WalletHub, the leading US states on environmental quality, eco-friendly behavior, and climate change contributions in 2019 are: –

  1. Vermont
  2. New York
  3. Oregon
  4. Connecticut
  5. Minnesota

As per Ipsos, in 2016, more than 80% of the older generation, above 55 years agreed to turn off lights and turn the water off. More than 60% accept LED lightbulbs and energy-efficient appliances. More than 50% accept reusable bags and recycle electronics.

However, when it comes to using organic food items, bike, or walking, when possible, hybrid/electric or diesel cars or even carpool, less than 20% agrees to use them for their purpose. Whereas more than 25% of millennials are interested in the above-mentioned sustainable actions in their daily activities.

In the case of sustainable goods and services, more than 50% of US adults are interested to use the products. Whereas some of them are skeptical or find it too expensive to use. A major concern in sustainable goods and services is the cost. The organic products are way too expensive and sometimes seen as classy or a lifestyle meant for the upper class.

In my opinion, the statistics show a movement going among US citizens. The people are desiring to go for the change. But the generations got a different way of adapting to a new lifestyle. Not every time, everything gets accepted by the people depending on the situation.

Is it possible to make sustainable products more affordable? Is it possible to take care of the cost of the raw resources?
