As per an article by industry of things, the Automotive industry is strongly heading towards digitalised future to counteract the uncertainties and unstable supply chains stretched to the breaking points.
The initiatives are more for stability, flexibility, traceability, and security. The major pressure for digitalization has been faced by the German and European automotive industries.
One of the major problems is the data exchange in the supply chain which is an isolated solution package with end-to-end networking. And the issue is expanded due to any clear solution available on the table.
The new approaches are also hinting towards a risk of becoming separate or bilateral systems. Also, the automotive industry is branched in several ways with various supplier networks. They also consist of a high number of small and medium-sized companies.
Another problem is the resource-related restrictions allowing companies to implement changes flexible in IT requirements.
Data security and sovereignty are other vital issues and cannot be allowed by a third party without upper-hand control.
In the European automotive community, hyperscalers such as AWS, Google, and Co. are not able to meet any of these requirements.
Also, the Automotive industry has handled the latest trend of moving into an electric vehicles, and autonomous vehicles, from dealer to direct sales and political involvement in the global supply chain.
In 2021, Catena-X was founded to handle the obstacles and challenges in the automotive industry, especially in European and German countries.
“Catena-X is a network for the automotive industry that enables a standardized exchange of data along the entire value chain”. They are the answer for the automotive industry moving towards digitization and also for the rapid digital transformation of the industry.
Catena-X is also not involved with bilateral data for an accessible data space in which each participant retains its sovereignty over the accessibility and data usage. It is relevant for sustainability such as monitoring CO2, circular economy, and traceability.
One of the important bases of the module is that- it can be achieved through federated data infrastructure that guarantees the sovereignty of the data and the security of the participants.
Catena-X uses the IDS (International Data Spaces Standard). A specific use case is being used by Gaia-X.
