In a typical circumstance, rear-end crashes are considered a minority in crashes but then also, they sum up nearly to 300,000 out of 2 million rear-end crashes being reported, the striking vehicle was a passenger vehicle.

Mostly, the accidents are prevented with guards where the under-ride rear is stronger whereas large trucks that can be detected reliably by AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) can prevent crashes occurring from the rear under-ride crash, and thereby the burden on the underride guard is lessened.
