VCSEL stands for Vertical cavity surface-emitting laser. It is widely used in non-automotive areas. One of the industry leaders is an Austrian company AMS in the VCSEK technology development for solid-state LIDAR applications. It is a pioneer in Ibeo’s 4-D LIDAR technology.

The propagation is referred to with 4D in x, y, and z-direction with intensity. The AMS technology allows narrower bandwidths, with more effective filters and a high-power density with a better signal-to-noise ratio that can be achieved through this technology.

AMS provides the combination of solutions from the VCSEL technology and know-how that will lead to the breakthrough of solid-state Lidar in the automotive sector as per Ulrich Lages, CEO of Ibeo.
