As the AVs open the door to new opportunities and techies to show their skills. Xiaomi, the market leader in the realm of the smartphone, accessories, and home appliances market is diverging into the realm of the new tech cars.

The company confirmed the mass production of the first car in the first quarter of 2024. As per the rumors, the company is planning to launch a fully-featured self-driving electric vehicle.

A Weibo blogger shared a real-life picture of a Xiaomi self-driving test car. The autonomous vehicle was designed with a sleek design with a lidar sensor on the roof.

As we can see from the pictures, Xiaomi’s first vehicle is very likely to be an autonomous vehicle. One of the key components of any self-driving car is the lidar sensor on the roof of the car.  A 3D vision is provided for the vehicle’s computer and mechanical system for making appropriate driving decisions.

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi will be the CEO of the new smart electric vehicles business. The Chinese smartphone manufacturers as planning for around 10 billion yuan investment in the next 10 years.

As the competition is high, needs to be seen does Xiaomi can place a firm foot in the realm of the AV market also or not. Will they just become a contender or able to upbeat the market leaders or not?
