- Lead times are long in automobile production
Mostly designing a new vehicle model takes around 5- 7 years, with a new concept or new power units usually needing development and testing in an extensive model and government certifications. The production tools are automated in a complex way. The CO2 reduction programs must be proposed to recognize this lengthy process.
If any policy is issued without identifying the sufficient time needed for the vehicle production will affect adversely manufacturers, suppliers, employees, and consumers.
- Infrastructure support is needed for new fuels
Any commitment made towards a massive investment that includes new fuels needs to be sure about the market is ready to purchase them. It is needed to have clearly defined quality standards and must have an advance guaranteed foe wide and suitable fuel.
- Sustainable new fuels
Biofuels were identified as one of the new resources to reduce CO2 and energy security improved by reducing the import reliance from the traditional oil-producing regions. Biofuels from crops are sustainable if the production is certified as not threatening food, water supply, or the environment.
If biofuels can be economically competitive with oil-based fuels then they can produce lower CO2. Since CO2 affects the agricultural cycle due to the change in land use, fuel production, fossil fuel substitution, and use in vehicles.
