In today’s era, can we describe Autonomous vehicles, V2V technology, electric cars as the disruptive technology in an Auto industry market or a progressive lead towards a more interconnected society. As technology promises more security, more safety, developing smart cities with smart solutions to traffics, accidents, and other vehicle hazards. How much society is really adapting to such technology?
Autonomous vehicles became a reality due to progressive technology. The amount of investment is done to provide a better solution, creating platforms for ideas that can generate wealth as well as growth in a sustainable future. The technology, we come across in sci-fi film is not just a dream but progressing into a reality that can be enjoyed by every individual in today’s world. A major feature in an autonomous vehicle is crash avoidance technology which is leading a path for various autonomous driving systems.
Manufacturers like Mazda to Maserati are very well involved to incorporate such technology for a large part of the operational fleet of vehicles. The idea is not limited to car manufacturers but also to a dozen of small and big technology companies where they got the designs on drive as well.
Delphi Technologies, one of the leading technology allows automakers to share the Vehicle to Vehicle technology in order to utilize the benefits of wide-scale data collection.
As per NHTSA(National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the potentiality of vehicle communications is not only to enable technology for autonomous motor vehicles but it has an opportunity to enhance an autonomous vehicle’s ability to identify potential problems and take appropriate actions in order to avoid them.
As per Chris Urmson, one of the self-driving car pioneer, indicates two major issues that inhibit the usage of autonomous vehicles. First, technology that can deal with hard problems of driving in order to deal with rare events where systems need to be pushed really well in order to perform in a certain way. The second is manufacturing companies bringing autonomous vehicles in a market at a great scale means to build the right self-driving system.
But the industry has its own issues and obstacles. The V2V technology has been stalled by Trump Administration which is prohibiting the Automakers to accept V2V technology whereas in October 2018, Department of Transportation’s (DOT) broader self-driving push is seeking guidance actively from various companies to provide the supportive assistance in new AV test projects where the temporarily rules can be removed that poses obstacles to such tests.
Is the technology suitable for roads in developing countries where some of the people’s daily wages come from being a driver to some else car, being an Uber/ Ola driver, or driving a normal taxi. What about their pay? And even though the technology becomes successful, how is it going to solve the issue of the people who are mending their survival needs on being just drivers. Is it possible to even think of society with cars completely without drivers or is it just a hope for a new future that results in limited edition to a limited society?
