Miles Mobility is taking over the car-sharing business WeShare, which means the Volkswagen Group is entering into a partnership with the car-sharing provider Miles Mobility.

UMI Urban Mobility International GmbH has been taken over by VW Passenger Cars. As per the new partnership, more than 10,000 electric cars of the brands Audi, Seat/Cupra, and VW passenger cars, are to be delivered in 2023.

According to Christian Dahlheim, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Financial Services AG, “New mobility services such as car subscriptions and car sharing are in great demand. This is a trend in which we want to participate even more,”

“With a strong partner as the operator of the fleet and with vehicles from various brands of the Volkswagen Group, car sharing will be widely available to even more customers. We are very pleased to have found a perfect partner in Miles, whose offer can be booked via Volkswagen’s mobility platform. WeShare customers will then benefit from car sharing in eight major German cities.”

Oliver Mackprang, CEO of Miles Mobility GmbH: “The electrification of the fleet is a cornerstone of the Miles strategy on the way to sustainable urban transport. With the acquisition of WeShare and the integration into the Miles ecosystem, we are taking a significant step in the right direction. We are pleased to expand the long-standing cooperation with the Volkswagen Group through this mobility partnership.”

Miles Mobility is an independent carsharing and modern mobility provider in Germany. It offers kilometer-based car sharing, van sharing, and rates for flexible daily rentals-all available in a stationless free-floating system. The company is active in 8 cities in Germany and two cities in Belgium. It was founded in 2016.

Volkswagen recently acquired the car rental company Europcar. The company will be an important cornerstone for the Group’s future new mobility platform. “The aim is to offer customers a wide range of different mobility services – from car sharing for a few hours to car subscriptions for several months. The platform will also be open to providers outside the group, such as Miles, to increase scalability and customer value. In this way, the Group wants to participate in the globally growing markets for mobility services.”
